Tafesilafa'i = TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT!
If you are unaware of what Tafesilafa'i is thats okay, just know that the festival we went to last night was an EPIC FAIL! Maybe Im being too harsh but for real for real!?!?! WTF! Ive been wanting to go to the festival for some years now but never got a chance to make my way out there. It is a Samoan cultural festival with booths to shop in, food booths, and most importantly performances. Sounds uber fun right? WRONG!
If any of you have been to Samoan Flag Day and the Ho'olaule'a then you know what I mean when you expect poly festivals to be a certain kinda way. I shouldnt group them all together but realistically they pretty much pan out to be relatively similar. We went hella late last night, later than I had hoped because a certain someone *cough..BRUCE* took his sweet time with his nap lol. It was just Brucious, Jazz, and myself and so we made our way down to Long Beach for the festival. Get there, its $8 to park (sucky) and then we see the festival and my jaw drops to the floor. EXSQUEEZE me?!?!? You cant be serious and if I only had my camera I would have totally taken a picture and showed you how jaw droppingly small this festival was. I swear my entire house including front and back yards together were only slightly smaller than the festival. We did NOT just spend $8 to park and come to the festival and spend 2 1/2 minutes walking the entire place. Literally there were like 5 - 7(not approximate) shopping booths and about 4-5 food booths, of which out of the 4-5 food booths..SAMOAN FOOD WAS NOT ON THE MENU!!! WTF x2!! How you gonna have a Samoan festival with no Samoan food and the only booth that looked Samoan was selling TACOS!!!!! Ass backwards if you ask me! Mind you, in addition to the tacos at the Samoan food booth, they did sell pankeke but unless there was a memo that was sent out prior to my existence...I never knew tacos and pankeke to go together..juss sayin! The other booth was Hawaiian food and then you had your slushy/smoothie booth and a booth dedicated to cookies, chips, churros, and other pointless food.
Okay so YES we got there during the end of the last performance but I mean it wasnt crowded anyways. You could stand in one spot and see everyone and everything. You could walk from one side to the next in a matter of 10 sec or less. I was and still am TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED! I will not be going back and if I do, please print this blog post and bring it to me at the festival and ask me...WHY??!?!? SHAMIKA WHY?!?!? Maybe we just went on a sucky day and time. Who knows but I dont wanna spend another $8 for that shit...uh uh no sir! Oh and did I mention that they started playing "Teach Me How To Dougie" and all these little moemimi's were up there dancing like they was the show? Since when was the Dougie part of our culture? ha ha ha ha ha Man we really stepped into the Twilight Zone!! ha ha ha
Flag day starts this weekend too. So next week we'll be there. Hopefully there will be no shootings this year and no deaths, Im hoping and praying. Ive sworn off that festival for years but I gotta check it out one last time and get me some damn oka, pisupo, palusami, falifu fa'i, puligi, half moon pie, and whatever cholesterol driven food they got there. Mmmmmmm oka!
